Safer sleep 🌙

Sleep safety is woven into every part of our day. We follow safer sleep guidance from The Lullaby Trust so babies and young children can rest safely while in our care.

Back to sleep

We always place babies on their back for every sleep, day and night, until they are at least 12 months old. This is the safest sleeping position and reduces the risk of sudden infant death.

Clear, flat sleep space

Babies sleep on a firm, flat, waterproof mattress in their own cot or sleep space with no pillows, duvets, bumpers, toys or loose bedding that could cover their face.

Comfortable temperature

We keep rooms between 16–20°C, dress babies appropriately for the room, and check their temperature by feeling the back of their neck or tummy to avoid overheating.

Smoke-free environment

Our setting and any sleep spaces are entirely smoke-free. Exposure to smoke, even second-hand, significantly increases the risk of sudden infant death.

Calm sleep routines

We follow gentle, predictable wind-down routines and keep the sleep area quiet and dim. Babies are settled when drowsy but awake whenever possible.

Working with families

We talk with parents about each baby’s usual sleep routine and any medical or feeding needs. We keep sleep records, carry out regular checks, and never use pods, nests, positioners or weighted bedding. If you have questions about safer sleep at home, we are always happy to share guidance and signpost trusted advice.
