Healthy, balanced food
Our vegan menu is planned around fresh, whole foods with plenty of vegetables, fruits, grains and plant proteins. Meals and snacks are age-appropriate, low in salt and sugar, and aligned with early years nutrition guidance.
Mealtimes should be safe, social and nourishing. We follow government food safety and early years nutrition guidance so children can explore food with confidence.

We prepare food to suit each child’s age and eating stage. Hard, round or sticky foods are modified or avoided, children sit upright while eating, and staff stay with them throughout snack and mealtimes.
Hands are washed before eating and after nappy changes or toileting. Surfaces and utensils are cleaned thoroughly, food is stored and served at safe temperatures, and we follow strict allergy management procedures.
Children serve their own food where possible, use child-sized cutlery, and are encouraged to eat at their own pace. We talk about food positively and never rush or force children to finish what is on their plate.
We record allergies, intolerances, cultural food preferences and weaning stages. Parents are asked to share updates so every child’s needs are met safely at home and in the setting.
Our food safety, hygiene and nutrition practice is guided by the Department for Education’s early years food safety advice and the Early Years Foundation Stage nutrition guidance. These resources help us provide balanced meals, manage allergies, prevent choking and support healthy habits from the very first tastes.
